The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Book Review: Only Seven?
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey was groundbreaking when it first released.
Now 25 years later here I am reading the 25th anniversary edition of the book.
The core of the book focuses on 7 habits that if overstood & implemented into your daily life would make you a much happier efficient person.
The 7 habits are as follows:
1. Be Proactive
2. Begin With The End In Mind
3. Put First Things First
4. Think Win/Win
5. Seek First To Overstand, Then To Be Overstood
6. Synergize
7. Sharpen The Saw
There is actually an 8th habit except it is not covered in this book, it is covered in his other book The 8th Habit. I have included it here simply for completeness.
8. Uplift Others To Uplift Yourself
The most impactful of the above on my own life is beginning with the end in mind. Any project that I begin I always ask myself, where will I end up by the end of this? What do I want the end of this to look like?
At times being proactive can be extremely helpful. Such as thinking about something in advance so you plan accordingly. An example would be keeping your keys in the same place so that way you always know where they are. So if on the spur of the moment you have to go somewhere with your car, you know exactly where your keys are.
The final one I will touch upon is thinking win/win. We live in a world where most people are in it for themselves, they tend not to think of the other person. Perhaps the average blog reader on my site is more of a giving individual who thinks win/win. Though I may be being optimistic. A few good questions to ask yourself are: What will this cause the other person? How can both of us prosper from this interaction? Does Win/Win eliminate competition?
